What this scheme offers
Puducherry runs two schemes that put money aside for girls from poor families. In the first, poor parents who have only one girl child, studying in Classes 8 to 10, get ₹25,000 deposited in her name as a National Savings Certificate at the Post Office; the maturity amount is released when she turns 18, and the aim is to promote small families and ease the cost of her marriage. The parents must show that the annual income does not exceed ₹24,000, that they have only one girl living and no other child, and that she is studying. In the second, families with one girl child get ₹20,000 deposited in her name, or ₹10,000 for each of two girls, when a parent has undergone family planning. The Women and Child Development Department updated both notices for the Puducherry region in May 2026.
