What this scheme offers
Puducherry's Women and Child Development Department pays a marriage allowance to two groups of brides. A poor bride whose family lives below the poverty line receives ₹15,000 towards the marriage expenses, and the daughter of a destitute widow receives ₹20,000 — the second also requires that the family's annual income does not exceed ₹24,000 and that it is the bride's first marriage. In both cases the assistance goes to only one daughter in a family, and the marriage must comply with the law in force, including the legal ages for marriage. The department updated its notices for the Puducherry region in May 2026 and published lists of beneficiaries for both allowances in 2026, which shows the schemes are active. A separate allowance of ₹15,000 for poor Scheduled Caste brides is run by the Adi Dravidar Welfare Department.
