What this scheme offers
Launched from July 2022 in one of the AAP government's first major moves after taking office, Punjab's free electricity scheme gives domestic consumers up to 300 units free every two-month billing cycle — a genuinely higher threshold than the 200-unit schemes several other states run, reflecting both Punjab's summer cooling needs and the scheme's role as a defining early commitment of the new government. The state government now reports that roughly 90% of Punjab households pay nothing at all for electricity as a result.
Who is eligible
- Domestic electricity connection in Punjab.
- Consumption within 300 units per two-month billing cycle for the full waiver.
- Connection registered with PSPCL.
Documents required
- Electricity connection details (account number)
- Aadhaar card, where required for verification
How to apply
- No separate application in most cases — the benefit is applied automatically to eligible domestic connections billed by PSPCL.
- Check your bi-monthly bill to confirm the free-unit benefit has been applied.
- If your bill doesn't reflect the expected waiver despite consuming within 300 units, contact your local PSPCL office.
- Ensure your connection details are current with PSPCL to avoid billing discrepancies.
