What this scheme offers
A dark village road is a genuine safety issue — for pedestrians, for two-wheeler riders, for anyone walking home after dark — and extending grid-powered street lighting to every rural road in Punjab would mean a steady, ongoing electricity cost the state would carry indefinitely. Solar street lights sidestep that trade-off: nearly 3 lakh units approved for installation across 11,500 villages, each one self-powered and requiring no ongoing grid electricity, turning a genuine rural safety gap into a one-time infrastructure investment rather than a recurring expense.
Who is eligible
- Villages in Punjab identified for the scheme's rollout — this is village-level infrastructure, not an individual-beneficiary scheme.
Documents required
- None for individuals — installation is managed by PEDA and local Panchayats
How to apply
- No individual application — installation is planned and executed by PEDA in coordination with local Gram Panchayats.
- If your village hasn't received solar street lights yet, raise it with your Gram Panchayat for inclusion in a future phase.
- Report any malfunctioning solar street light to your Panchayat or PEDA's local office for maintenance.
