What this scheme offers
Launched by the previous Congress government as Mukhyamantri Digital Seva Yojana and popularly called Indira Gandhi Smartphone Yojana, this scheme puts a smartphone and three years of internet and calling data directly into the hands of women who might otherwise be left out of digital access — women heading Chiranjeevi Yojana households, girls in Class 9-12 at government schools, and women studying at government colleges. Around 1.35 crore women are targeted. The current BJP government has continued distribution with some rebranding (also referenced as Mukhyamantri Free Mobile Yojana), so don't be thrown off if you see slightly different names for what is functionally the same scheme.
