Chief Minister's Girl Child Protection Scheme (Tamil Nadu)

A fixed deposit of ₹50,000 for a family with one daughter, or ₹25,000 each for two daughters, maturing at 18 to ₹3,00,232 or ₹1,50,117 each — with a ₹1,800 yearly incentive from year six; apply before the girl turns 3.

What this scheme offers

The Chief Minister's Girl Child Protection Scheme, introduced in 1992, puts money into a fixed deposit for daughters in poor families that stop at one or two girls. Under Scheme-I a family with only one girl child gets ₹50,000 deposited in her name; under Scheme-II a family with exactly two girls gets ₹25,000 for each. The deposits, held with the Tamil Nadu Power Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation, are renewed every five years and mature at 18 to ₹3,00,232 (Scheme-I) or ₹1,50,117 for each girl (Scheme-II). From the sixth year of the deposit, a ₹1,800 yearly incentive helps with school costs. The girl must appear for the Class 10 public examination to claim, and one parent must have undergone sterilisation by age 40. The scheme covers girls born on or after 1 August 2011.
