What this scheme offers
Formally the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Higher Education Assurance Scheme, Pudhumai Penn was introduced in 2022 to keep girls from government schools in education after Class 12. Every eligible girl gets ₹1,000 a month, paid directly to her own bank account, for the full length of her undergraduate degree, diploma, ITI or professional course. It replaced an older marriage-assistance scheme, deliberately shifting support from marriage to education, and is credited with adding thousands of girls to Tamil Nadu's college enrolment each year. CM Vijay confirmed in May 2026 that it continues unchanged.
