What this scheme offers
Tamil Nadu has long run its own rural housing programme alongside PM Awas Yojana-Gramin, aimed at one clear goal: no family living in a thatched hut. Under the previous name, Kalaignar Kanavu Illam, each beneficiary received ₹3.5 lakh to build a concrete-roofed house. The August 2026 budget renamed it Vetri Veedu Vazhangum Thittam, with 70,000 houses and ₹3,000 crore planned for the first year. The per-house amount under the renamed scheme hasn't been clearly published in sources we could verify, so confirm it with your Block Development Office before planning construction.
