What this scheme offers
Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY covers around 12 crore families nationally, but its eligibility criteria — drawn from SECC data — inevitably leave some residents without any government health cover at all. CMJAY exists specifically for those residents: launched in February 2024, it extends the exact same ₹5 lakh cashless benefit to any Tripura family not already covered under PM-JAY or another government scheme. Tripura's move made it the first of India's smaller states, and the 12th state overall, to roll out this kind of universal top-up — a genuinely significant healthcare-access expansion for a state government funding roughly ₹104 crore of it in the launch year alone.
Who is eligible
- Resident of Tripura not already covered under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY or another government health insurance scheme.
- Treatment sought at a primary health centre or an empanelled hospital (government or private, in Tripura or outside).
Documents required
- Aadhaar card
- Residential proof (Tripura domicile)
- CMJAY card, once issued
How to apply
- Check your eligibility and existing coverage status at your local health centre or Common Service Centre.
- If not already covered under PM-JAY, register for CMJAY — the state health department verifies you aren't double-covered before issuing a card.
- For treatment, visit a primary health centre or an empanelled hospital and present your CMJAY card.
- Approved treatment is cashless — the hospital settles directly with the scheme.
- Contact the Department of Health and Family Welfare if you're unsure whether you're already covered under PM-JAY or need to apply fresh for CMJAY.
