What this scheme offers
Named after the warrior queen Rani Laxmi Bai, this scheme was first promised in the BJP's 2022 UP assembly election manifesto and moved from budget line to a working scheme when the UP Cabinet approved its Standard Operating Procedure on 21 July 2026. It targets the single most common reason girls in rural and semi-urban UP drop out after Class 12: the daily commute to a degree college that's often too far to reach on foot or by shared transport. Around 50,000 meritorious girls who scored 75% or more in the UP Board Class 12 exam receive a free petrol scooty — registration and one year's insurance included — funded through a ₹400 crore state budget allocation.

How to apply
- There's no separate application form to fill — this is routed through your school/college, not a direct portal application.
- Your school or college collects eligible students' details and documents and forwards them to the university.
- The university prepares the eligibility list, authenticated by the Registrar and Controller of Examinations.
- Once the scheme portal is live for your district, keep an eye on updates via your institution or urise.up.gov.in.
- Get your school principal's verification done promptly — unverified forms are a common reason for rejection.
