What this scheme offers
This is a registration scheme, not a single cash payout — the Shramik Card itself is the gateway to over 20 welfare benefits for construction and building workers, funded through a cess collected on construction projects across the state. Once registered, a worker's family can draw on accident cover (₹5 lakh on death, scaled amounts for disability), an old-age pension, maternity assistance, children's education scholarships, and marriage assistance for daughters — the kind of safety net that unorganised construction labour otherwise has almost none of.
Who is eligible
- Engaged in building or construction-related work (mason, bar-bender, carpenter, plumber, electrician, and similar trades).
- Age between 18 and 60 years.
- Worked at least 90 days in construction-related work in the last 12 months.
- Permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh (domicile certificate required).
Documents required
- Aadhaar card
- Age proof
- 90-day employment certificate (from contractor/employer or self-declaration as per rules)
- Domicile certificate
- Bank account details
- Passport-size photographs
How to apply
- Visit upbocw.in, the official UPBOCW portal.
- Register using Aadhaar-linked mobile OTP — there's no permanent password, verification is entirely OTP-based.
- Fill in your work details, including the 90-day construction work declaration.
- Upload the required documents and submit.
- Once verified and approved, your Shramik Card is issued — renewal is required annually (or can be done for up to 3 years at once).
- Registering the card doesn't automatically pay out benefits — you apply separately for each specific benefit (accident claim, scholarship, marriage assistance, etc.) once the card is active.
