Paschim Banga Awas (formerly Banglar Bari Gramin, West Bengal)

West Bengal's rural housing grant of ₹1.2 lakh in two ₹60,000 instalments, renamed Paschim Banga Awas on 6 August 2026 from Banglar Bari — ₹60,000 second instalments went to 10.2 lakh families while the beneficiary list is re-verified through e-KYC.

What this scheme offers

Paschim Banga Awas is West Bengal's rural housing scheme, known until 6 August 2026 as Banglar Bari (Gramin), which the previous government started in 2024 after central housing funds were held up. Eligible rural families receive ₹1.2 lakh in two instalments of ₹60,000, funded by the state. On 6 August 2026 Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari renamed it and handed out the second instalment of ₹60,000 to 10.2 lakh beneficiaries, more than ₹6,000 crore in all, with the Chief Secretary citing over ₹600 crore from state funds for the second phase. The new government ordered the beneficiary list re-verified with 100% e-KYC and promised that other eligible applicants would be covered in later phases after verification, as funds allow, with no 'cut money' or middlemen. There is no open application window at present.

Who is eligible

  • Rural homeless families or families living in dilapidated houses who are on the verified Banglar Bari / Paschim Banga Awas list.
  • The list was built from the earlier survey and the Sorasori Mukhyomantri helpline applications, and is being re-verified with e-KYC.
  • Other eligible families can be covered in later phases after verification, subject to funds — there is no fixed date.
  • Families may also qualify under the central PMAY-G, which the Chief Minister urged people to apply for.
