What this scheme offers
Construction work in West Bengal — like everywhere in India — is largely unorganised labour, meaning most masons, carpenters, electricians and site workers have no employer-provided insurance, pension, or benefits of any kind. Registering with the BOCW Welfare Board changes that: it unlocks ₹4 lakh accident insurance, a monthly pension of ₹1,000 from age 60, maternity benefits, support for children's education, and access to a housing loan — turning a genuinely precarious occupation into one with at least some institutional safety net, funded through a cess collected on construction projects across the state.
Who is eligible
- Engaged in building or construction-related work in West Bengal (mason, carpenter, electrician, plumber, and similar trades).
- Age between 18 and 60 years.
- Minimum days of construction work in the preceding period, as specified by the Board.
- West Bengal domicile.
Documents required
- Aadhaar card
- Age proof
- Proof of construction work (contractor/employer certificate or self-declaration per Board rules)
- Bank account details (Aadhaar-linked)
- Passport-size photographs
How to apply
- Register at bocwwb.wb.gov.in, the official BOCW Welfare Board portal.
- Submit your work details along with age and identity proof.
- Registration is verified, often with support from a labour welfare camp or local labour office.
- Once your registration card is issued, renew it periodically as specified by the Board.
- Apply separately for each specific benefit (accident claim, pension, maternity benefit, education support, housing loan) once your registration is active — the card itself doesn't automatically disburse benefits.
