What this scheme offers
Unveiled by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in June 2021 and formalised through a state gazette notification, the West Bengal Student Credit Card works less like a one-time education loan and more like an actual credit card: students get access to a revolving credit line of up to ₹10 lakh at a flat, low 4% simple interest, with no collateral required, that they can draw against for tuition, living costs, books, laptops, or other education-related expenses as they come up — from Class 10 onward, including study at institutions outside India.
Who is eligible
- Permanent resident of West Bengal.
- Pursuing education from Class 10 (secondary) onward, including higher education, professional courses, or study abroad.
- Admission to a recognised educational institution.
- Co-borrower (typically a parent/guardian) required for the loan application.
Documents required
- Aadhaar card
- Admission proof / bonafide certificate from the institution
- Passport-size photograph (JPEG, 20–50 KB)
