What this scheme offers
Since 1 August 2025 — starting with the July 2025 bill — Bihar has not charged domestic consumers for the first 125 units they use each month. The cabinet approved it on 18 July 2025 as the Mukhya Mantri Vidyut Upbhokta Sahayata Yojana, with the state paying the subsidy through the Bihar State Power Holding Company (₹3,797 crore sanctioned for 2025-26). It covers the energy charge, the fixed charge and electricity duty, applies to both rural (DS-I) and urban (DS-II) domestic connections, and benefits about 1.67 crore families. There is nothing to apply for: the subsidy is applied automatically, and the department has warned against fake registration links. Check your bill to see how consumption above 125 units is charged.
Who is eligible

- No documents are required — the benefit is automatic.
- Keep your electricity consumer number handy to check your bill on your utility's website or app (SBPDCL for south Bihar, NBPDCL for north Bihar).
