What this scheme offers
Bihar rewards candidates who clear the preliminary stage of a civil-services examination with a one-time cash incentive: ₹50,000 for the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) preliminary and ₹1 lakh for the UPSC Civil Services preliminary. It is really three schemes with the same amounts, each run by a different department — one for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates, one for Extremely Backward Class candidates (some listings also include other backward classes), and one for women candidates of every category. General-category men are not covered. The point is to help candidates fund their Mains preparation, so the money is paid after the prelims result by direct transfer.
