What this scheme offers
Launched in 2018, this is one of the most broadly inclusive girl-child schemes in India — unlike many similar state schemes, there's no income ceiling, so every girl born in Bihar qualifies. The total assistance of ₹50,000 is paid across her life stages: an amount at birth, further support tied to schooling milestones through Class 12, and a graduation-completion incentive that was recently enhanced to ₹25,000 — the single largest component of the total benefit, paid once she completes her degree. The scheme also funds sanitary napkin distribution and uniform/dress support at various school stages as part of its broader girl-child welfare goals.
Who is eligible
- Any girl child born in Bihar — no family income restriction applies.
- Must be enrolled in a Bihar government or government-recognised school for the education-linked installments.
- Must complete graduation at a recognised institution to claim the graduation-completion incentive.
Documents required
- Birth certificate
- Aadhaar card
- School enrolment/admission proof, at relevant stages
- Bank account details (Aadhaar-linked, for DBT)
- Graduation degree/marksheet, for the final installment
How to apply
- Visit the DBT Bihar Education portal (edudbt.bih.nic.in) to register for the relevant stage.
- For school-stage installments, your school typically coordinates bulk registration for enrolled students — check with your school administration.
- For the birth-stage installment, registration usually happens through the Anganwadi Centre or the birth registration process.
- For the graduation-completion incentive specifically, apply individually on the portal after completing your degree, uploading your final marksheet/degree certificate.
- Once verified, the installment is credited via Direct Benefit Transfer to the registered Aadhaar-linked bank account.
