PM-JANMAN — PM Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan

A dedicated mission bringing basic infrastructure and services — housing, roads, water, power, healthcare and education — to India's 75 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups, communities long left out of mainstream development.

Note: this mission delivers infrastructure and services at the community level through convergence with other schemes, rather than a single individual application. This page explains what it covers and how PVTG community members access support.

What this scheme offers

Launched on 15 November 2023 (Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas), PM-JANMAN targets India's 75 officially recognised Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) — communities identified as having pre-agricultural technology, low literacy, and declining or stagnant populations, spread across 18 states and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The mission converges 11 critical interventions across 9 ministries: pucca (permanent) housing under PM Awas Yojana-Gramin, road connectivity, safe drinking water via Jal Jeevan Mission, electricity access, improved mobile connectivity, Anganwadi Centres and healthcare access via mobile medical units, Multi-Purpose Centres for skill development and livelihood support, and Van Dhan Vikas Kendras where forest produce is central to the local economy. Unlike scattered scheme implementation, PM-JANMAN specifically tracks and reports progress against each PVTG habitation to ensure none are missed.

Who this scheme is for

  • Members of any of India's 75 officially recognised Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
  • Coverage spans 18 states and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, targeting roughly 28 lakh PVTG individuals nationally.
  • Support reaches communities through their local habitation, not via individual application to this mission specifically.

How communities access this support

  1. Contact your District Tribal Welfare Office or the Ministry of Tribal Affairs' PM-JANMAN coordination cell to check whether your habitation is on the identified PVTG list for coverage.
  2. For housing, apply through the standard PM Awas Yojana-Gramin process — PVTG households are prioritised within this.
  3. For drinking water, road, or electricity connectivity gaps, raise these through your Gram Panchayat, which coordinates with the relevant line departments under the mission's convergence framework.
  4. For healthcare, ask about Mobile Medical Unit visit schedules serving your area specifically for PVTG communities.
  5. Van Dhan Vikas Kendra membership (for forest-produce-based livelihoods) follows the same process described under the Van Dhan Yojana on this site.
