What this scheme offers
Before this scheme, most farmers applied fertiliser based on habit or a shopkeeper's recommendation, often over-applying some nutrients while missing others entirely. A Soil Health Card tests your land across 12 key parameters — nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulphur, zinc, pH, organic carbon and more — and translates the results into plain, crop-specific fertiliser and soil management advice. Farmers who follow the recommendations typically see an 8-10% cut in fertiliser costs alongside a 5-6% yield increase. Cards are reissued roughly every 2-3 years, since soil conditions change with cropping cycles, and the same field-assigned expert generally continues testing your land for consistency.
