Kisan Credit Card — KCC

Revolving credit for farmers to cover crop, post-harvest, and allied expenses — up to ₹5 lakh, with an effective interest rate as low as 4% for those who repay on time.

What this scheme offers

KCC gives farmers a flexible line of credit — borrow as needed through the growing season, repay after harvest, rather than taking a fixed lump-sum loan. The standard lending rate is 7%, but a 3% Prompt Repayment Incentive brings the effective rate down to 4% per annum for those who repay within the due date. Loans up to ₹1.6 lakh (raised to ₹2 lakh in many banks as of 2026) require no collateral. Since 2019, KCC has expanded beyond crop loans to cover animal husbandry, dairy, and fisheries through the Pashu Kisan Credit Card variant, which needs no agricultural land. The card also comes with linked benefits like crop insurance under PM Fasal Bima Yojana and personal accident cover. As of the latest Union Budget, the interest subvention ceiling was raised, lifting the maximum loan limit from ₹3 lakh to ₹5 lakh.

Who is eligible

  • Owner-cultivators (individual or joint), tenant farmers, sharecroppers, and oral lessees.
  • Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) of farmers.
  • Farmers engaged in allied activities — animal husbandry, dairy, poultry and fisheries — even without agricultural land, under the Pashu KCC variant.
  • No upper age limit; farmers above 60 must add a co-borrower (usually a legal heir) to the application.
  • PM-KISAN beneficiaries are effectively pre-verified, since their land and Aadhaar data is already on file, simplifying the KCC application.

Documents required

  • One-page KCC application form
  • Aadhaar card (mandatory for e-KYC)
  • Land records (7/12 extract, khatauni, or pattadar passbook, as applicable to your state), or a self-declaration of cropping pattern for tenant/sharecropper applicants
  • Two passport-size photographs
  • Security documents, for loan amounts above the collateral-free limit

How to apply

  1. Visit your bank branch, a Common Service Centre, or apply through your bank's mobile app or the JanSamarth portal for the digital (d-KCC) route.
  2. PM-KISAN beneficiaries can apply using a simplified one-page form, since their land and Aadhaar records are already verified.
  3. Submit your application with land records (or tenancy declaration), Aadhaar, and photographs.
  4. The bank calculates your loan limit using a Scale of Finance formula based on your crop, land area, and post-harvest needs.
  5. Once sanctioned, your KCC is issued — usable as a revolving credit line, not a one-time disbursal.
  6. Track your loan status and interest subventions in real time on the Kisan Rin Portal.
