What this scheme offers
The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) has developed affordable housing in the Union Territory since 1976, building residential units for EWS, LIG, MIG and HIG income categories at planned locations across the city — including project areas like Maloya, Dhanas, Mauli Jagran, and newer developments in Sectors 51-54. Units are offered below market rate, and allotment happens through a computerised draw of lots rather than first-come-first-served, with defined priority for BPL families, SC/ST applicants, and serving or retired defence personnel. Because Chandigarh's open real estate market is among the most expensive in North India, CHB allotments are consistently oversubscribed — treat this as a genuine housing lottery, not a guaranteed allocation.
Who is eligible
- Indian citizens aged 18 or above as of the application deadline.
- Falls within the income category (EWS/LIG/MIG/HIG) for the specific scheme round you're applying to.
- Priority categories: BPL families, SC/ST applicants, and serving/retired defence personnel.
- Residents within a defined radius of Chandigarh (criteria have been relaxed over time to include some nearby areas — confirm current eligibility radius on the portal).
- Applicants who already hold a house allotted by CHB, GMADA, PUDA, HUDA or a similar government housing entity are generally excluded from new allotments.

How to apply
- Watch for a new scheme announcement at chbonline.in — CHB launches specific housing rounds periodically, not on a continuous open basis.
- Register and apply online during the active application window, uploading your Aadhaar, income proof, and any priority-category documents.
- Pay the earnest money deposit specified for your chosen unit category.
- Allotment is decided through a computerised draw of lots — this is public and auditable, not discretionary.
- If selected, you'll be notified with further payment and possession instructions.
- If not selected, your earnest money is refunded per the scheme's terms.
