Indiramma Illu Housing Scheme

Up to ₹5 lakh (₹6 lakh for SC/ST families) to build a permanent house — plus a free 250 sq. yard plot for families with no land at all — targeting 4.5 lakh new homes across Telangana.

What this scheme offers

Launched in March 2024 by Telangana's Congress state government, Indiramma Illu ("Indiramma's house," invoking former PM Indira Gandhi's legacy of rural housing schemes) provides financial assistance to build a permanent (pucca) house for homeless and low-income families — ₹5 lakh for general category applicants, rising to ₹6 lakh for SC/ST families. For families with no land of their own, the scheme additionally provides a free 250 square yard residential plot before construction assistance applies. The programme targets building 4.5 lakh homes statewide, distributed at roughly 3,500 houses per assembly constituency, prioritising the most vulnerable households first through local-level surveys.

Who is eligible

  • Homeless families, or those living in kutcha (temporary/non-permanent) houses, in Telangana.
  • Low-income households, per the scheme's income criteria (typically aligned with BPL-equivalent thresholds).
  • Priority given to SC/ST families, widows, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups identified through local surveys.
  • Families without any land receive a free plot as a prerequisite before house-construction assistance is released.

Documents required

  • Aadhaar card
  • Income certificate
  • Residence proof
  • Caste certificate, where applicable (for the higher SC/ST assistance amount)
  • Land documents, or proof of landlessness for plot allocation
  • Bank account details

How to apply

  1. Check whether your household has been included in the local survey conducted by your Gram Panchayat or Urban Local Body to identify eligible beneficiaries.
  2. If not yet surveyed, contact your local Panchayat Secretary or Municipal office to request inclusion.
  3. Submit your income, residence, and category documents for verification.
  4. Landless families are allocated a 250 sq. yard plot first, before construction funding proceeds.
  5. Once approved, construction assistance is released in installments tied to construction progress, similar to other housing schemes.
  6. Check indirammaillu.telangana.gov.in for application status and your constituency's current allocation progress.
