What this scheme offers

The Shagun scheme, approved on 10 January 2023 by the Governor of Punjab as Administrator of Chandigarh, gives one-time marriage assistance of ₹31,000 to women from low-income families of the Union Territory. It covers the marriage of orphan and destitute girls and the remarriage of widows and destitute women. A woman can claim for her own marriage or for the marriage of her daughters, up to two daughters. Those named as eligible are daughters of pension-holder widows or destitute women, disability pension-holder women, girls living in child care institutions, after care homes and Nari Niketan, daughters and women from Antyodaya households, registered female street vendors and their daughters, and daughters of outsourced sanitation workers, all residents of Chandigarh.
