What this scheme offers
Shramik Basera Yojana, launched on 18 July 2024, provides rented temporary housing to registered construction workers and their families at a nominal ₹5 per day per person, and children aged six or below stay free. The first sites were taken up in four cities — Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Rajkot and Vadodara — where the Chief Minister inaugurated 17 construction sites that will house more than 15,000 workers on completion; the overall aim reported is to cover up to three lakh workers. A dedicated portal handles registration and allotment, and the worker's e-Nirman card has to be valid and up to date. The scheme addresses the problem that migrant workers often live in unsafe, unhygienic shelters near work sites.
