What this scheme offers
Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah / Nikah Yojana, running since 2006, supports the weddings of poor, destitute, abandoned and widowed women through government-organised mass marriage and nikah ceremonies. The bride receives ₹49,000, paid by account-payee cheque or direct transfer on the day of the ceremony to help set up her home, and the body organising the event receives a further ₹6,000, so the total provision is ₹55,000 per case. Each ceremony brings together between 11 and 200 couples, held on a division-wise annual calendar — one fixed date is Akshaya Tritiya. Because the grant is tied to the ceremony, a couple who marry privately outside it do not qualify, and a widow remarrying here can claim only the Kalyani Vivah scheme.
Who is eligible
- The bride must be a permanent resident of Madhya Pradesh, aged 18 or above, and the groom aged 21 or above.
- Covers daughters of poor, destitute and abandoned families, and widows and divorced or abandoned women; eligibility is checked on the BPL portal.
- The marriage must take place at a government mass marriage or nikah ceremony held on the notified dates.
- Some sources say there is no income limit; others tie eligibility to the BPL record — ask your local body which applies.
