What this scheme offers
Majhi Kanya Bhagyashree puts money into a fixed deposit in the daughter's name rather than paying the family directly. A family with one daughter gets a ₹50,000 deposit; a family with two daughters gets ₹25,000 for each. The principal is released when the girl turns 18, interest can be withdrawn at set intervals, a loan of up to ₹5,000 is available against the deposit, and there is an accident-insurance cover of ₹1 lakh. The catch is the family-planning condition: a parent must be sterilised within one year of the first daughter's birth, or within six months of the second daughter's, and the certificate is mandatory. The scheme applies to daughters born on or after 1 August 2017.

- A parent must undergo family planning and submit the certificate: within one year of birth for one daughter, or within six months of the second daughter's birth.
