What this scheme offers
The Megha Health Insurance Scheme, started in 2012, is Meghalaya's universal health insurance. It gives a family up to ₹5.30 lakh of cashless cover a year on a family-floater basis, so any member can use the whole amount, and it works together with Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY. The cover has grown from ₹1.6 lakh in the first phase. There is no limit on family size and no age limit, newborns are covered, pre-existing conditions are covered from day one, and treatment is cashless at empanelled hospitals, including some outside the state. Residents enrol at an enrolment centre and pay only a ₹30 e-card charge, because the government pays the premium; central and state government employees and their dependents are excluded. Phase 6 was scheduled to end on 31 August 2026, and the state has been designing Phase 7.
