What this scheme offers
Implemented alongside the central Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY scheme as the combined "AB PM-JAY CMHIS," CMHIS fills the gap for Nagaland residents who don't qualify under PM-JAY's income-based eligibility criteria. It covers hospitalisation costs, medical and surgical procedures, diagnostic tests, maternity benefits, and ambulance charges, with tie-ups extending to specialised hospitals across India for advanced treatments (organ transplantation, neurology, oncology) not locally available. As of 2026, an estimated 96% of Nagaland households have some form of cashless hospitalisation cover through this scheme. Beneficiaries fall into two categories with different cover levels: CMHIS (GEN) for the general public not otherwise insured, and CMHIS (EP) for state government employees and pensioners, which carries a substantially higher cover limit.
Who is eligible
- CMHIS (GEN): Permanent and indigenous residents of Nagaland who don't have any other free or subsidised government health insurance.
- CMHIS (EP): Regular state government employees, serving legislators, eligible public-sector employees, fixed-pay/work-charge employees, and pensioners.
- No age or gender restriction for either category.
