What this scheme offers
Mamata, started in 2011, is Odisha's conditional cash transfer for maternity, run through Anganwadi centres. Pregnant and lactating women aged 19 and above receive ₹10,000 for their first two live births, in two instalments: ₹6,000 once the pregnancy is six months along and the first set of conditions is met, and ₹4,000 after the child is about ten months old and has been immunised and exclusively breastfed. The benefit was doubled from ₹5,000 by a decision of 13 February 2024. Women from 13 particularly vulnerable tribal groups can claim for every pregnancy rather than only two. Government and public-sector employees and their wives are excluded, and Odisha pays Mamata instead of the central PMMVY. The department states that the scheme covers all 338 ICDS projects in 30 districts.
