What this scheme offers
The Chief Minister's Uzhavar Pathukappu Thittam, brought in by a government order of 10 September 2011 in place of the 2006 farm-labourers' scheme, is a social security net for farmers and agricultural labourers who enrol and hold a membership card. Members and their dependants can claim marriage assistance (₹10,000 for women and ₹8,000 for men in the department's table), an old-age pension, a monthly pension during temporary incapacity from TB, HIV, cancer or another terminal illness, and a ₹1,000 monthly grant for orphans. On death the family gets accident relief of ₹1,00,000 (₹50,000 for paralysis), natural-death assistance of ₹20,000 and ₹2,500 funeral expenses paid at once without a death certificate. Dependants also get education assistance, and help continues to the family after the member dies.
