What this scheme offers
Rythu Runa Mafi was Telangana's crop-loan waiver: the state wrote off crop loans of up to ₹2 lakh per farmer family — principal plus applicable interest — for loans taken between 12 December 2018 and 9 December 2023. It was rolled out in phases from 18 July 2024: loans up to ₹1 lakh first (about 11 lakh farmers, ₹6,098 crore), then up to ₹1.5 lakh (about 6 lakh farmers, ₹6,190 crore) and up to ₹2 lakh (over 5 lakh farmers, ₹5,172 crore), with later phases taking the total to roughly ₹21,000 crore for more than 25 lakh farmers by December 2024. It covers short-term crop loans and gold-backed crop loans from commercial, cooperative and regional rural banks, and farmers with loans above ₹2 lakh were asked to pay the excess to the bank first. This was a one-time waiver and no new enrolment window has been announced, but the state kept a portal and a grievance cell for returned accounts and data mismatches.
