Subsidy for Construction/Purchase of New Motorized/Mechanized Fishing Boats

Up to 75% subsidy on a new fishing boat for Andaman & Nicobar's fishing communities — a foundational scheme for an island economy where fisheries are central to local livelihoods.

What this scheme offers

Renewed annually under the UT Plan Scheme, this programme helps fishermen and coastal communities in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands acquire a new motorized or mechanized fishing boat — a significant upfront cost that the subsidy substantially reduces. General category applicants, including unemployed youth, local entrepreneurs, and Fisheries Cooperative Societies, receive a 50% subsidy on the approved unit cost; tribal category applicants receive a higher 75% subsidy. The scheme sits alongside related fisheries support — subsidised fishing inputs (nets, gear), and under the Ministry of MSME's RAMP programme, transportation and logistics subsidies for fisheries-based businesses moving fish and fishery products to market.

Who is eligible

  • Bonafide fishermen and tribal community members residing in municipal and tribal fishing areas of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
  • Local unemployed youth and interested entrepreneurs.
  • Fisheries Cooperative Societies, Federations, and Tribal Cooperative Societies of the Islands.
  • Must hold (or be applying for) a valid fishing licence.

Documents required

  • Identity proof (Aadhaar)
  • Residence proof (A&N Islands)
  • Fishing licence, or proof of application for one
  • Tribal certificate, where claiming the higher 75% subsidy rate
  • Cooperative Society/Federation membership proof, where applying as an organisation
