What this scheme offers
Named after freedom fighter Madhusudan Das and running since 2008, MBPY merged Odisha's earlier Revised Old Age Pension Rules (1989) and Disability Pension Rules (1985) into one unified scheme. It pays ₹300 a month to eligible beneficiaries under 80, rising to ₹500 a month for those 80 and above, credited directly to bank accounts on the 15th of every month. Beyond old age, the scheme covers widows of any age, persons with leprosy or physical deformities, individuals with disabilities including blindness, orthopaedic impairment, mental retardation or cerebral palsy (from age 5), and widows or patients registered with the State/District AIDS Control Society.
